A particular use of oil & gas chillers is for example to supply the chilled water used by condensate stabilisers, machines that remove the most volatile hydrocarbons in crude oil or natural gas: an operation that must be carried out in complete safety, with chillers playing their essential part.

A further safety test: the chiller must ensure that no sparks are released from its electrical components. The aim is of course to avoid gas or chemical combustion.

The secret of this system is the combination of the refrigeration section and the free-cooling section depending on the time of day and year: the first mode allowed by these liquid chillers takes advantage of the normal operation of a refrigeration circuit, the second allows cold outside air to be directly conveyed to the fluid to be cooled: maximum efficiency, minimum energy use due to the clear separation between the two sections.
